La Tribuleira

In 2000, thanks to 3 young sibling’s dream and the love of the land, La Tribuleira was born, a little estate menaged by the Gallo family.
In 1999 Mauro Gallo, completed a diploma course in Agricultural Technical Istitute Specialised in Viticulture and Oenology. He with his younger brother and sister, Daniele and Elisa, decided to follow the footprints of his grandfather Eugenio, a well known cellar manager who worked in a famous cellar in Santo Stefano Belbo.

The estate vineyards are situated around Santo Stefano Belbo, a small village in the Langa district which is characterized by its hills and vineyards which don’t allow for highly mechanized techniques, but, thanks to the sun, the position and a lot of hard work the flavours and scents of our enogastronomic tradition were born. LA TRIBULEIRA takes its name from this, it not only means to work hard and to toil, but it wants to pay homage to necessary sacrifices and labour required to obtain and keep these typical products produced in the traditional ways.

Today, about 8.5 hectares of vineyard are cultivated on a hilly terrain. The vineyard is divided into: Moscato Bianco 6.5 he, Chardonnay 0.35 he, Barbera 0.38 he, Nascetta 0.5 he and Albarossa 0.5 he.

Excellent geographical positioning along with a sandy soil with marl, a special microclimate and a production philosophy, which focuses on bringing out the very best of the grapes, combined with short winter pruning, adequate green pruning and green harvests, make it possible to obtain harmonious, aromatic and structured white and red wines.

All Wines are produced with a traditional vinification system based on the same philosophy used in the vineyard cultivation: the optimum use of technology and tradition in order to keep ‘terroir’ flavours.

In 2000, La Tribuleira marketed two products: the Langhe D.O.C. Chardonnay and, the king of wines in this area, the Moscato d’Asti D.O.C.G.: part of their grapes were sold to local cellars and the other part, specially selected, was used for their own wine.

In 2003 they increased their production with Barbera d'Asti D.O.C. and a sublime Piemonte D.O.C. Moscato Passito: they use only the most select grapes for drying inside the cellar at a controlled temperature and humidity, to obtain a concentrate liqueur-like wine that tastes of ripe fruits and has a strong perfume.

In 2004 they increased their production again, when two new grape varieties were planted: the Nascetta and the Albarossa. These two native grape varieties of the Piedmont area, have only been rediscovered within the past ten years.

The Nascetta is a white grape variety used for the production of fresh white wines, with a good and fresh bouquet.
The Albarossa is a red grape variety, created in the 1930’s from a combination of Nebbiolo and Barbera, producing a rich and harmonious wine.

In order to publicise our wines and to allow people to taste them, we have created a special and very welcoming wine tasting room.
After visitors to our winery have toured the cellars, we invite them to this tasting room to appreciate the results of our hard work and to let you to discover the perfume and the taste born from good Langa wine making tradition.
